"Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals has been receiving support from Rosie’s Charity for a number of years. The donations of toys, games consoles and equipment have had a significant impact on the welfare and wellbeing of children being treated at our hospitals. In particular, many of our children have special educational needs and coming to hospital can be an extremely daunting prospect. Sensory toys have helped them to feel more comfortable and at ease.
Donations from Rosie’s have enabled our play specialists to hold diversion activities for children who have needle phobia or undergoing complex treatment. It can also be a very challenging time for young people aged 11-16 and it is important for them to maintain as much of ‘normal life’ as possible. Games consoles donated by Rosie’s have been brilliant for young people especially as the new technology enables them to connect with their friends at home and play games against them. We would not be able to provide this through the NHS but it makes a huge difference to children staying at our hospitals."
